Patrick Bruel: “I am happy to invest here to honor this Provence a little, which hosted us”

Patrick Bruel received the Midi Libre at the height of summer at his home in Ile-sur-la-Sorgue. Products created on his land, experiences, hotels, albums, series… he presents his projects.

Between two concerts, you regularly escape to these lands of Provence, to Ile-sur-le-Sorgue. What are you looking for here?

I feel myself good. And I am happy that I can share this with my family, friends. I am happy that this anchor point is in the middle of two important places in my life, my French roots and my North African roots: where I was born, in Algiers, and where I lived, that is, in Paris.

Together with this joy, feel at home in Provence. Last July 20, during my concert in Carpentras, for the first time in my life I really felt like a local scene. This made me very happy. And then, for my children, this place is also a landmark, they are roots. I am happy when they come here, they welcome their friends, they are at home, they are proud when we taste their olive oil and all the products of the Leos estate (a name born from a contraction of their names Leon and Oscar, Editor’s note).

The domain where you are now developing an entire ecosystem…

We started with a small olive and have come to a great adventure that includes a lot… Starting with olive oil, we are interested in the benefits of the olive leaf, cosmetics, agro-products. After honey, we work on lavender and jams, which came from my love of thyme.

I put it everywhere in the kitchen, in desserts … During my imprisonment, I did not stop cooking in Paris with this thyme that my mother brought from here. We made these jams in a workshop two kilometers away (and made up of people with disabilities, Ed).

You also work with a local association that deals with the reintegration of the unemployed.

Yes, Clé des Champs, which participates in the harvest. We also made an agreement with the agricultural school of Ile-sur-la-Sorgue for planting, clearing bushes… This leads to a very interesting exchange of views with the students. I try to invest myself in this territory, with its actors, and I would like to spend more time there.

These lands produced the first wine, a rosé wine that bears the name of your mother, Augusta. Will there be other cuves?

Yes, we have been making red wine for three years already, it will be available by September 2024. But this is a long-term work, my children, and maybe their children or grandchildren will someday get very good wine in this territory. The terroir is very promising, it’s crazy! And then there will be white wine, probably before red.

Do you have other projects?

Yes, we are currently working on a tapenade project, on a kitchen garden, on a fragrant herb garden… We want to develop our agri-food range, but it must be meaningful and up to standards.

In April 2024, at the entrance to Ile-sur-la-Sorgue, in Porte de Bouigas, a hotel will also open with 49 rooms and a level of about 5 stars, it will be a passing place with a restaurant, well, with a Wellness spa, but also a place open to the city, which will carry the identity, traditions and specificity of the island of Ile-sur-la-Sorgue. We want to make it a place for experiences.

I am happy to invest myself here and honor a little this city and this Provence that adopted us, my family and me for fifteen years, I want to return them to them.

This dimension of the entrepreneur behind the singer, the actor, does it take up more space today?

No, I remain an artist first and foremost, but I am passionate, I like to take on work in many areas, in the emotional sense of the word, I always surround myself only with very close people, competent and trusted (in particular, the former owners of the house, Joel and Karol Gaye, who accompany him in his projects, editor’s note).

I also have a competitive side, in everything I do I try to do my best, strive for excellence and it is true that Leos H oil has been at the top of all national and international competitions for five years (54 medals, in including 23 gold). medals, ed.). It’s a lot of work and thought with an extraordinary team.

And then I like to watch it happen, I like to be close to this land and taste what is planted there, it’s a crazy feeling. Whenever we go to friends who make their own wine, oil, jam, tomato sauce or whatever, there is always something very beautiful. One day Reno came here for dinner, he brought me a box of fruits and vegetables from his garden, he was so proud, so happy, it was at the very beginning when we were there, we had not started doing anything yet, it really affected me.

This Provencal estate is revitalized by a never-ending churn of projects… Do you find it hard to stay idle?

I love when I can afford it. But it’s true that in this moment between the end of the album, the end of the tour, and all these teachers that fascinate me, it’s not on the agenda (laughs). I will be back to normal soon. I want to spend a little more time with my loved ones, myself.

But from actor to singer, from olive oil to poker, from football to chess, I never had a hobby in my life and that’s why I always worked, at least I did my best. I didn’t get everything right, but I always did everything thoroughly.

Bio Express

This is what Michel Drucker says: “Among the great French stars were Johnny, Kkloklo. Today there is Bruel.” Singer, actor both on the board and on the big screen, poker player in his spare time, crowned with the equivalent of a world title, Patrick Bruel is a multi-card artist, also known for his commitment to the Enfoirés squad, where he broke all attendance records. Born May 14, 1959 in Tlemseme, Algeria, father of two sons, Oscar born in 2003 and Leon born in 2005, Patrick Bruel divides his time between Paris, Provence and the United States.

This house is also a place of musical creativity…

Yes, I have written many songs on this piano, this is where I work in the summer, this is where I will put the finishing touches on my new album.

When will he come out?

On November 18, the first single will be released on August 26.

How did you take the meeting with the public in Occitania on July 18 in Ales?

It was great. Something happened, there was this situation, these arenas, this wind of freedom. It was a really good exchange. This will go down in history as one of my best gigs.

Is the tour coming to an end?

Yes, we are filming a show in Liege (Belgium) in October, then I don’t think we will be doing new shows until 2024.

Other art projects?

Probably the series filmed in January, for me it will be the first. And we have a production company with Amanda (Sters), the mother of my children, we made a documentary about the American casting director Bonnie Timmermann, he was selected in Venice, in Deauville. We are super proud!
